The first time I heard about a google browser, I thought it was a prank.. Well, now it doesn’t seem to be a prank.. They aren’t joking atleast this time..
If this was done by somebody without a big brand, this news wouldn’t have caught people’s attention.. Well, Google is using its brand… It is trying to advertise with its mantra “keep it simple and rework the basics”.. Will it work with Chrome? We might have to wait and watch..
When I see the screenshots, I am excited.. But it is going to be a challenge to make users adopt and use Chrome.. We’ve seen the transition from IE to Firefox happening once.. Will the transition happen again? Personally, I am not very convinced at this moment.. Gotta wait and see..
By the way, I can also hear cries about cross-browser issues.. Having worked on web domain for sometime now, I’ve cribbed about and have seen loads of people cribbing about cross-browser CSS and JS issues.. If Chrome manages to penetrate a substantial market portion, developers will have to test their site in Chrome as well.. Sigh!!!
We are also seeing some stats related to the performance of Chrome. See techcrunch article for details. Chrome might become a part of Android (or is it a part of it already??) thus penetrating the mobile market too. What is happening to Google/Mozilla smooth relationships now?? I am also hearing speculations about Google buying mozilla in future. Interesting!!
Google’s blog about Chrome is here.
